This radio was purchased mainly for listening to FM radio in an office building that blocks most radio signals that get to my walkman. The antenna makes reception acceptable inside the office building, but outside or in my house the reception and sensitivity is phenomenal. Also the battery life is impressive, 2 months on one set of batteries listening on headphones for ~6hrs a day. I like the digital encoder on the tuner that reads out the radio frequency, it makes tuning in to stations much easier than the old analog style pointer. As others have mentioned though this is only a digital encoder that reads an analog tuning dial, not digital tuning. Playing with the shortwave portion of it is neat too, but if your real serious about SW you might find the sensitivity of this portable radio disappointing. The SW section does work and I can pick up several stations, unfortunately most of them are religious broadcasts which I have no desire to sit and listen to. If I want to listen to a sermon, I’ll go to church and do it in person. I’m in Buffalo, NY so I can’t get the BBC here, but I’m sure other areas of the US can and it would be enjoyable. By the way the SW pickup works in my house and outside, but I can’t pickup anything in the office building, but this is expected. I have the same problem with the AM reception which works with a smaller coil antenna inside of the radio. Well worth the dollars I spent on it and it even comes with a case and batteries (2x AA). I can listen to the radio at work now, which is good cause they won’t let us stream internet radio.
