Power meets power. The AVR635 combines the sonic power of a high-current, ultrawide-bandwidth amplifier with the computer power of Texas Instruments’ most advanced audio DSP to deliver unparalleled performance. Thanks to Harman Kardon’s advanced EzSet/EQ functionality, the AVR635 not only automates speaker, output and delay settings; it corrects for room acoustics with a parametric equalizer. Add video conversion circuits that output all video sources via component connections with on screen graphic, and you have the power to tame any system and deliver powerful performance.

Harman Kardon AVR 635 7.1 Channel Surround Sound Audio/Video Receiver Specifications

Amazon.com Product Description Harman Kardon’s AVR 635 7.1-channel audio/video surround receiver includes the company’s latest features and technologies on top of near-universal surround-format compatibility. Internally, the receiver is engineered for extraordinary sonic performance, featuring a discrete-output amplifier section that delivers seven channels of high-current (+/- 50 Amps), ultrawide-bandwidth amplification–7 x 75 watts into 8 ohms, 20 to 20,000 Hz with less than 0.07 percent THD–in addition to state-of-the-art 192 kHz/24-bit audio digital-to-analog converters and a high-power Texas Instruments 32-bit DSP processor.

Take a closer look at the AVR 635′s connections. You can also view the unit’s front panel and remote control in detail.

The AVR 635′s wealth of cutting-edge technologies also includes quadruple-crossover bass management, automatic digital input polling, video cross-conversion (which converts all composite- and S-video sources to high-resolution component-video), bidirectional RS-232 connectivity with software and firmware upgradeability, A/V sync delay, and a slot-mounted tuner that may be upgraded at a future date to accommodate HD Radio.

Surround sound features include Dolby Virtual Speaker, Dolby Headphone processing, and Dolby Pro Logic IIx processing (which provides an expansive, full-range 7.1-channel program from any stereo or 5.1-channel source). The receiver handles all other popular formats (including Dolby Digital EX and Dolby Digital 5.1), all standard DTS modes (including 6.1 DTS-ES Discrete, DTS-ES Matrix, DTS Neo:6, Cinema 6.1/5.1, and Music 6.1/5.1), and even the latest DTS 96/24 high-resolution audio technology. In addition, the AVR 635 provides HDCD (High-Definition Compatible Digital) processing to deliver the best possible CD playback quality from HDCD-encoded discs.

You also get Harman’s proprietary Logic 7 audio for enhanced multichannel reproduction from both matrix-encoded and 2-channel recordings. The latest implementation of Logic 7 provides improved post-processing for the rear surround channels.

The receiver’s many audio and video connections include three wide-bandwidth, assignable HDTV-compatible component-video inputs. The AVR 635 also features multiroom/multisource operation with independent, simultaneous playback of two program sources, assignable back surround amplifier channels, A-BUS connectivity, and a Zone II remote. The A-BUS Ready system simplifies multiroom connectivity without external amplifiers. It uses a standard Cat5/Ethernet cable to connect the receiver’s rear panel in one room to a Harman Kardon AB 1 A-BUS-compatible amplifier/control module in a separate room.

Along with its extensive video connectivity, the receiver offers a array of digital and analog audio connections, including multiple coaxial and optical digital audio inputs and outputs. It sports both analog and digital front-panel inputs, 6-/8-channel direct audio inputs, and 7.1-channel preamp outputs to accommodate a DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, SACD, or universal player.

The AVR 635 is also among the first receivers to include EzSet/EQ, which provides automated system calibration and room equalization, which greatly simplifies installation as it improves system performance by tailoring the output of the receiver to your speakers, compensating for the effects of room acoustics.

The receiver’s quadruple-crossover bass-management system lets you choose from six different crossover frequencies for the front L/R, center, surround L/R, and surround back L/R speakers. Most receivers and DVD players have far more limited crossover filtering or none at all. Moreover, you can set different speaker-size configurations for different AVR 635 input sources according to your needs.

You get a high-quality FM/AM tuner with 30 station presets and a Listener Preference System that lets you specify a surround mode according to the program source. You can also set speaker-channel levels for each program source and DSP format (for example, the subwoofer level can be set differently for multichannel movie viewing and 2-channel CD music listening).

What’s in the Box
Receiver, remote control, remote batteries, an EzSet/EQ microphone, FM wire/AM loop antennas, warranty information, and user’s manual.

Harman Kardon HK3480 Stereo Receiver Specifications

Amazon.com Product Description Not everyone wants or needs a 5.1-channel receiver, which is where this HK3480 two-channel receiver from Harman Kardon comes into play. This ultra-high-bandwidth, 240-watt unit is perfect for fans of jazz, classical, or rock, as its powerful features bring out both the bombast and the nuance of your favorite music. The HK3480 is also one of the few stereo receivers to employ VMAx technology, a proprietary signal-processing technique that simulates a 360-degree sound field through a mere two speakers. The technology gives the listener the sensation of sitting in a concert hall or theater without requiring a surround sound setup.

Take a closer look at the HK3480′s connections. You can also view the unit’s front panel and remote control in detail.

Though the HK3480 is designed primarily for music, it also pumps out high-quality audio for your TV, DVD player, VCR, and video game console. It includes enough inputs for each of these components, along with composite video switching that allows you to conveniently switch between them. And unlike many current receivers, the unit offers a high-quality phono input (with preamp) for people who treasure the unique sound of LPs and don’t want to give up their lifelong record collections.

The HK3480 also comes with an AM/FM tuner with 30 station presets, a three-step fluorescent display, and a multicomponent remote control. As with most modern receivers, it’s ready to serve as the audio centerpiece of all your listening needs, with seven audio inputs and four video inputs (including one on the front panel). The inputs are gold-plated for quality. The unit also comes with pre-out/main-in jacks for use with external amplifiers or speaker processors and a separate subwoofer output. Hookup is simple due to the color-keyed connections.

The receiver’s tuner section offers exceptional performance, from its high signal-to-noise ratio (73 dB in mono, 72 dB in stereo) to high (40 dB) channel separation for superior stereo imaging–not to mention strong tuning abilities with the help of better-than-80-dB image rejection and better-than-100-dB IF (intermediate frequency) rejection.

This component is equipped with a nonvolatile EEPROM (Electrically Erasable and Programmable Read-Only Memory) that preserves tuner presets and system configuration information, even when the unit is not connected to a main power source.

What’s in the Box
Stereo receiver, remote control, two AAA batteries, user’s manual, and warranty/registration information.

Harman Kardon DPR 1001 Digital Receiver

Harman Kardon DPR 1001 Digital Receiver

   Brand: Harman Kardon

   Model : 1001

   Customer Rating :

   List Price : $1,499.99

Harman Kardon DPR 1001 Digital Receiver Feature

  • 50 watts per channel x 7 (into 8 ohms, 20 to 20 kHz, with less than 0.15 percent THD); high-bandwidth HDTV video switching
  • Decodes Dolby Digital 5.1 and EX 6.1 (with additional rear-surround channels), Dolby Pro Logic II (for 5.1-channel surround from 2-channel stereo)
  • Also offers 6.1-channel DTS-ES Discrete, DTS-ES Matrix, DTS Neo:6; FM/AM tuner with station preset tuning
  • Versatile remote with EzSet automatic speaker-level calibration offers built-in sound-pressure-level measuring
  • Triple-Crossover Bass Manager is among the most advanced bass-management systems available

Harman Kardon DPR 1001 Digital Receiver Overviews

Once again, Harman Kardon breaks the rules and sets a new standard for advanced technology. This time Harman Kardon has leapfrogged conventional technology to create the first true digital path A/V receiver. Simply put, the audio signal remains digital all the way from the disc through to the digital amplifiers. This unique, all-digital approach results in a dramatically smaller form factor, much cooler operating temperatures, enhanced reliability, and flexibility in output assignment.

Harman Kardon DPR 1001 Digital Receiver Specifications

The 7.1-channel DPR 1001 digital path receiver features a full digital-signal path from input to output, combining high-power output, convenience, and leading-edge performance with a sleek, high-tech appearance. Winner of a CEA Innovations 2003 Design and Engineering Award, the 7.1-channel DPR 1001 delivers 50 watts into each of its seven main channels. It’s also compatible with all popular 7.1, 6.1, and 5.1-channel surround decoding formats, as well as with all high-resolution video and audio formats and display devices, thanks to its wide-bandwidth HDTV- and DTV-compatible component-video switching, multichannel analog-audio inputs, and detailed bass management.

The DPR 1001′s versatile setup and configuration options include independent multiroom-multisource operation and a comprehensive array of rear-panel and front-panel digital and analog video and audio connections. The receiver comes with Harman Kardon’s programmed LCD remote control with EzSet functionality, plus a Zone II remote for control of a second-room audio system. The receiver uses Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) digital amplifier technology–which keeps digital-audio signals in the digital domain from input to the last stage of output–to achieve significant advantages in performance and physical design.

Harman Kardon’s Triple-Crossover Bass Manager is among the most advanced bass-management systems available in any audio-video receiver or DVD player. This system lets you select from three bass-crossover frequencies for the front, center, and surround speakers to perfectly tailor the audio output fed to each set of speakers for optimal frequency response and performance. This compensates for the absence of bass management on many high-resolution optical players (like DVD-Audio or multichannel SACD players), making it easy to enjoy maximal sonic benefits from high-resolution formats. Advanced 24-bit, 192 kHz D/A converters ensure the highest possible resolution, fidelity, and dynamic range. Two proprietary Harman audio technologies, Logic 7 7.1/5.1 and VMAx, deliver heightened sonic realism from surround sound and stereo audio source material. When the unit’s connected to a computer or sound card with a compatible coaxial digital-audio output, you can play back MP3-encoded CDs or Internet-delivered streaming media.

The unit’s audio-video connections includes composite video, S-Video, and wide-bandwidth component video switching, plus a wide-bandwidth component-video output, which passes the full bandwidth of HDTV signals. Digital and analog front-panel jacks accommodate program sources such as game consoles, VCRs, camcorders, digital still cameras, and portable audio-video products. Exclusive to Harman Kardon products, the front-panel coaxial digital audio and analog audio-video jacks may be switched to function as record outputs for easy connection to portable recording devices.

Harman Kardon DPR 1001 Digital Receiver CustomerReview

I just purchased this receiver less than a week ago and I am amazed at the value and apparent quality of the piece, especially considering the currently discounted price. The sound is clean, and answering to perhaps one of my biggest concerns, 50 digital watts per channel is more than adequate for a basic home theatre/stereo system. It blows my 80 watt, 2-channel analog (piece of junk) JVC amp out of the water! I am so happy I bought this receiver!

As other reviewers have noted, the sound is clean, perhaps “too clean” for some audiophiles, however I play reggae, trance, and rock music, loud, and it sounds great! There is adequate bass, and I suspect the addition of a powered subwoofer will take it over the top – that is next on my list.

I suspect that some users who wrote reviews did not have the desire or patience to work through the somewhat laborious set-up required to optimize the sound. While the setup requires a somewhat sizeable time commitment, once you finish it is unlikely that you will ever have to deal with it again, at least until you make a change to your system. It is worth it because an accurate setup results in the cleanest sound I have ever heard, no matter what the source (DVD, CD, PC, TV/Cable, Laptop, Tape, Tuner, etc…I have all 7 of these sources hooked up). 6 of the inputs have connections on the back, while the seventh is made through the jacks on the front of the machine.

I think the biggest asset this receiver brings to the table, besides the crystal-clear sound, is the fact that each of the digital inputs can be mapped and assigned to any number of the seven available sources. There are more than enough digital inputs (3 coax, 3 optical) and outputs (1 dedicated coax, one dedicated optical), owing in part to the fact that one set of input jacks can be reversed from their default setting to become outputs – leaving you with two digital ins, and two digital outs (both coax and optical).

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT, esp. for 0, there is no better value anywhere! And in the words of another reviewer, “This is the best purchase I have ever maid!!!” I recommend that reviewer purchase spell check next!

With a sleek look to complement today’s flat-panel displays, and technology to make the most of the latest digital sources, the AVR 430 is an outstanding expression of the Harman Kardon design philosophy. All of the newest surround sound modes are here, including Dolby Digital EX, DTS-ES, DTS 96/24 and Harman Kardon’s own Logic 7. There’s an RS-232 port for both software upgrades and system control, along with an LCD remote. And with a Zone II standard remote and a variety of multiroom options, the AVR 430 can fill your whole house with sound.

Harman Kardon AVR 430 7.1-Channel Audio/Video Surround Receiver Specifications

Harman Kardon’s high-performance, 7.1-channel AVR 430 audio/video receiver mates power with convenience, flexibility with quality. When it comes to format compatibility, switching and distribution power, audio refinement, and exciting audio-enhancing features, the AVR 430 is quite nearly in a league of its own.

The receiver pumps 65 watts per channel x 7, or 80 wpc in stereo mode (2 channels driven). Its superior audio quality derives from its high-current, ultrawide-bandwidth amplification, its 192 kHz/24-bit digital-to-analog audio chips, the latest Cirrus Logic CS 49400 24-bit, dual-core DSP with 32-bit post-processing, and compatibility with all popular and many leading-edge surround-sound formats.

The AVR 430′s suite of technologies includes HDCD processing and Harman Kardon’s exclusive switchable front-panel audio, video, and coaxial digital-audio inputs. The AVR 430 also offers complete digital bass management for all inputs–critical for balancing the inputs from different surround formats–including the 6/8-channel “direct” analog inputs to accommodate playback of high-resolution digital-audio formats such as DVD-Audio and SACD. The receiver’s bass management seamlessly integrates these formats with any speaker system, regardless of the capabilities of the playback device.

The AVR 430 also includes a host of important features such as A/V Sync Delay for synchronizing the audio and video signals in systems using digital video displays, external video processors, or with digital sources such as PVRs, satellite, or digital cable; RS-232 connectivity for bidirectional remote control and firmware upgradeability; Harman Kardon’s exclusive EzSet remote with two-line LCD display; Dolby Virtual Speaker and Dolby Headphone surround processing; MP3 playback (through a digital-audio connection with your MP3-CD-compatible source component); and a slot-mounted tuner that may be upgraded at a future date to accommodate HD Radio.

Of special interest to custom installers, the AVR 430 offers extensive multi-room capabilities with assignable amplifier configuration and A-BUS Ready connectivity; a comprehensive selection of digital and analog video and audio connections, including two assignable, wide-bandwidth (50 MHz), HDTV-compatible component-video switching inputs; 6 digital-audio inputs, front-panel and S-video inputs and outputs; and a dedicated Zone II remote for multi room operation, among other features.

The RS-232 port on the AVR 430 is its link to additional features, as it works in concert with the receiver’s extensive flash memory to permit upgrades to both the operating system firmware and the software that powers the surround decoding. Should new surround modes or features become available in the future, this capability makes it possible to upgrade the receiver directly from a compatible personal computer.

Harman Kardon AVR120 Audio/Video Receiver CustomerReview

Let’s cut the jive and get real about what it takes to make a quality home theater system (my goal) and also have great stereo music reproduction. First of all, it doesn’t have to cost you a lot of money. I have a small living room (12′X20′) and a good 27″ flatscreen TV. I also have a tight budget. I did a bunch of research on lower-end, lower priced, and lower powered (RMS watts-per-chanel) 5.1 Channel AVR’s for surround-sound home theater. When I got done comparing everthing available in the 0. to 0. range (a whole bunch!!) I ended up buying the Harman/Kardon 120 AVR. Most people have modest-sized living rooms and listening areas and they simply purchase too large of a system, including a way too powerful A/V receiver (expensive too!) Buy yourself some quality but inexpensive speakers (Polks/bookshelves or JVC’s etc.) that are capable of handling the peak music loads without distortion and a cheap & small powered subwoofer and have at it!! The AVR 120 has a low RMS per channel power rating but it is also a wide-ranging amp that doesn’t crap-out when the sound gets loud and just keeps driving the speakers cleanly. It has lots of great features and is easy to program and is user friendly. It looks great too, and is a great backbone for my super-sounding home theater. I love this little receiver and it just keeps amazing me…..my friends think I paid BIG BUCKS for it all….I just smile!

Harman Kardon AVR 145 5.1 Channel Audio/Video Receiver CustomerReview

Just bought this to bring life to my system. Running Polk audio bookshelf speakers as the front channels, pioneer’s as the rears and center. Mirage Omni S8 sub set up in a small apartment living room. The AVR 145 brings everything you would expect from Harman/Kardon. The highs are crisp and clean and the lows are smooth.
